Calming the Knitting Crazies: Finding Peace and Joy with Yarn

"Knitting Crazies" is what I call the constant buzz in my head when I'm thinking about knitting. Whether it's buying yarn, finishing projects, wearing my creations, selling them, storing my stash, getting more yarn, or gifting finished items—all these thoughts keep swirling around. If you're a knitter, you probably know what I mean.

When I started knitting, my mind was overwhelmed with ideas and plans. I tried to find peace by scrolling through social media, but it made things worse. I felt knitter envy and got even more ideas that I didn’t need. Have you ever felt like this?

Overcoming the overwhelming thoughts:

  1. Talk to a Knitting Friend - I found it helpful to talk to someone who loves knitting as much as I do. Sharing my thoughts and ideas with a fellow knitter made a big difference. If you don’t have a knitting friend, email me at knitnexttoyou@gmail.com. I’d love to be your knitting buddy.
  2. Work on a Project You Love - Choose a project you really enjoy. Focusing on something you love knitting can help calm your mind and bring back the joy of knitting.
  3. Organize Your Yarn Stash - Sorting through your yarn stash can be very soothing. It helps you see what you have and stops the urge to buy more yarn impulsively. Make a list of yarns you’d love to have instead of what you want.
  4. Plan Your Projects - Write down all the projects you want to work on and the yarn you’d like to use for each one. This planning helps you stay focused and reduces the chaos in your head... then of course, purchase yarn for the project you have whole-hearted decided to knit.
  5. Reevaluate Your WIPs - Look at all your unfinished projects (WIPs) and decide if you still enjoy working on them. If not, it's okay to unravel (frog) them. If you’re unsure, put the project away and check back in a month. If you still don’t feel like working on it, frog it and add it back to your organized stash.

What Knitting Should Be

Knitting should be a relaxing and enjoyable hobby. If a project isn’t bringing you joy, it’s okay to make changes. Sometimes, a project just needs to wait for the right time in your life.

Remember, knitting should bring you peace and happiness. Enjoy the process, love your creations, and let your passion for knitting thrive without the stress. Happy knitting!
